***This now sold out print is available as a greetings card***
My grandad, Jack Davison, was a North East Miner and throughout my life, he always fondly told me stories of his time working down the pit. Even when he sadly contracted alzheimer’s in his later life and he was struggling with his memory, we could still talk about his time down the pit as though it had happened yesterday. This is a similar lamp to the one he used in Vane Tempest Colliery in the 1950’s. It feels very much so a firm part of my heritage, as I’m sure it will to a lot of other people too.
After being carefully hand carved using professional linoleum cutting tools, Van Son Rubber Based Universal Ink is then spread over the linoleum with a Japanese soft rubber brayer (roller). Japanese Awagami Washi Kitakata Select paper, which is made from sustainable materials, is then placed on top of the linoleum before pressure is applied using a press to evenly distribute the ink.
Due to this process, some small variations may occur, which makes each print truly unique.
The rubber ink, as well as the paper, have great archival properties and the ink sits so well on the paper.
The print will be packaged, with a sheet of card stock, in a cello bag, to protect from damage, water damage and maintain archival properties. A further, thicker piece of card will be added into the envelope, to add further protection to the print. The envelopes are also hard board backed with ‘Please do not bend’ printed on the front.
